Polygon is undertaking an exciting new children’s book project in support of Edinburgh’s leading social inclusion charity, the One City Trust.
Our City, a cracking collection of specially commissioned children’s stories, will be published in November and are written by Scotland’s finest authors. Aimed at upper primary age, the stories cater for all levels and interests, and are written by authors familiar to teachers and pupils alike:
Julie Bertagna,
Cathy Cassidy,
John Fardell,
Alison Flett,
Vivian French,
Keith Gray,
Elizabeth Laird,
Jonathan Meres,
Nicola Morgan and
Alison Prince.
Five Edinburgh schools have been enlisted to take part in a pilot in-school project looking at cross-curriculum projects that are sparked from this book. Their projects will then be used as best-practice examples to be made available to other schools on the web. The same schools with take part in a special Our City Day on 6th November to celebrate publication of the book, and to get the children directly involved in activities with the authors. A real treat has been lined up for the children in the form of celebrity guest
Raven, star of the BBC Scotland’s BAFTA award-winning adventure gameshow. Raven, aka Edinburgh boy James Mackenzie, has also written the introduction to the book.
Teaching resources are also being developed to accompany the book and will be available for schools to download from the
Our City website in November.
In 2006 Polygon published the first One City book, a collection of stories for adults called
One City, contributed to by
Alexander McCall Smith,
Irvine Welsh,
Ian Rankin and
J K Rowling.
