Highland Clan MacNeacail (MacNicol), The

The clan today still holds land on the Isle of Skye through the Clan MacNeacail Trust and it is active in much of the English-speaking world through clan societies which are members of The Highland Clan MacNeacail Federation.

This book is a remarkable synthesis of sound scholarship and living oral tradition. Historical texts, myths, traditions, story and poetry are critically examined to produce a fascinating history. Part I of the book by W. David H. Sellar is a superb brief history of the clan and Part II by Alasdair Maclean is a colourful account of its traditions. The text has been supplemented by colour illustrations, including coats of arms and tartans and by quotations in Gaelic with English translations.
