Scottish football is the national game and the national passion: there’s no end to the amount of fierce debate, trainspotter trivia and amusing banter that it provokes in homes, work places and pubs across the country.
An unhealthy proportion of it seems to end up on Scotland’s top commercial radio station, Real Radio, on Ewen and Roughy’s Football Phone-in. Broadcasting for two hours each day from Monday to Friday, Ewen and Roughy have become the premier presenters in the football phone-in league, provoking debate and laughter across huge swathes of the country. The success of the show has been extraordinary. When last season wound down, Ewen and Roughy’s football quiz helped to fill all those barren hours when there was no football to talk about, and proved enormously popular.
Now in book form, Ewen and Roughy’s Football Quiz offers over 500 Scottish football trivia questions spread over sections ranging from ‘The National Team’ and ‘Derbies’ to ‘The 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s’ and ‘The Lower Divisions’. Each section begins with an informative and funny introduction by Ewen and Roughy, capturing their insight, humour and on-air rapport.
Alan Rough is one of Scotland’s best known and best loved former footballers. A keeper with Partick Thistle, he made his debut at the end of season 1969-70 and went on to play a club record 624 games; before he joined Hibernian in 1982. Roughy went to two World Cup finals tournaments with Scotland in an international career that saw him play 53 times for his country – keeping 16 clean sheets in the process.
Ewen Cameron worked in Dubai for 15 years at Radio Star before he moved back to Scotland in 2002 for the launch of Real Radio. As Sports Editor he reported on the sporting issues of the day but from 2004 he became the second half of Ewen and Roughy on the Real Football Phone-In and now often makes the news with his outspoken and no-nonsense opinions on the beautiful game. Together Ewen and Roughy have developed the show into a ‘must listen’ for Scottish football fans.
