Ben Coutts’ autobiography is an extraordinary story. He started his working life as a pony-boy in the 1920s and went on to spend more than 60 years on the land, as a shepherd, factor, farmer and stockbreeder. His wartime career was full of danger. In later life he became a broadcaster and show judge, and even stood for Parliament in 1983.
