Edinburgh-born Susie Maguire’s professional incarnations have included vintage-clothes scout, ceramicist, artist’s model, a capella singer, actor, TV presenter, voiceover artist and comedy performer.
In the 1980s she was one-third of The Midget Gems, then one-quarter of the McKray Twins and eventually went solo, doing stand-up in London comedy clubs and at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. During this time she created her alter ego, Marina McLoughlin, a naive and curious young Glaswegian with a taste for adventure. As Marina she also co-presented six thirty-minute arts programmes with Anthony H. Wilson for STV. Marina has since featured in a number of short stories, including The Day I Met Sean Connery, which has been adapted for radio and television and used in TEFL courses to teach colloquial English. Many of Susie’s stories have been broadcast on BBC Radio 4 and Radio Scotland, as have two of her plays.
Susie’s other acting roles include impersonating Muriel Gray (Hogmanay Show, live on STV) seducing John Hannah (Brond, C4) and berating Alan Cumming for his taste in dressing gowns (Terry Neason Show, STV). She also survived three weeks as co-host of an STV Edinburgh Festival chat show with Danny Baker.
She is the author of two short-story collections, The Short Hello (2000) and Furthermore (2005), both published by Polygon, and has edited several anthologies for Polygon: Scottish Love Stories (1995), Hoots: Scottish Comic Writing (1997) with David Jackson-Young, and Something Wicked: Scottish Crime Fiction (1999) with Amanda Hargreaves. The fourth anthology, Little Black Dress, which includes stories written by Susie, Kate Mosse, Stella Duffy and Candia McWilliam, was published by Polygon in 2006.
Susie has also written columns, articles and book reviews for the major Scottish newspapers, and is an Arvon tutor. At present she is working on a novel. Her hobbies include sleeping, although when she is awake she enjoys painting unlikely looking cacti and constructing dioramas.

i heard susie maguire on radio years ago and am really pleased to find her books with some of the stories i remember hearing - more please!
