Birlinn’s management team, in conjunction with Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, University of Dundee, is delighted to announce the winners of the Birlinn Design Awards, 2008.
The Awards are intended to offer students of design valuable experience of working with clients on book design and illustration projects. Three awards will be presented: one for Fiction Cover Design, one for Non-fiction Cover Design and one for Illustrated Title Design.

Fiction
First Prize – Stewart Mair – for the cover design of forthcoming Polygon novel, Hypocrite’s Isle
Second Prize – Nicola Boon – for the cover design of Hypocrite’s Isle

Non-Fiction
First prize – Mandy Tait – for the cover design of The Wolf of Badenoch
Second Prize – Tracey Smith – for the cover design of The Wolf of Badenoch
Illustrated Title design
First Prize – Rosslyne Band and John Argyle – for The Scottish Antiques Guide
Second Prize – Kimberley Speirs and Ryan Strachan – for The Scottish Antiques Guide
Glenn Stewart, part-time Teaching Fellow in Interior & Environmental Design, first approached Birlinn with the idea of a design award two years ago and the inaugural awards were presented in 2007. Birlinn already partners the University, and City of Dundee, in the Dundee International Book Prize and both Hugh Andrew, Managing Director of Birlinn Ltd and James Hutcheson, Creative Director, were delighted to be involved.
