The Making of Hibernian: Volume 2 1893-1914

The Brave Years

‘An invaluable work packed with information’ The Absolute Game

‘The book is definitely one for the enthusiastic Hibs’ supporter’ University of Edinburgh Journal

‘A must for all Hibbees’ Stockbridge & New Town Independent

‘This is a book which will delight not only Hibs’ supporters but anyone of the Irish diaspora who has an interest in the experience of their immigrant ancestors’ The Irish Post

The first volume of The Making of Hibernian, published in 1995, was an instant success, having to be reprinted within three weeks of publication. This volume charts the progress of the Hibernians from the date of their resurgence as a non-sectarian community club in 1893 to the outbreak of the First World War. The second volume proved to be as popular as its predecessor, containing, as it does, an enormous amount of information on players, matches, directors, staff, and supporters.

Alan Lugton, in common with his late father and grandfather, a native of Edinburgh, has been 'Hibs daft' all his life. He has transmitted his enthusiasm and affection for the club to his wife, to his children and to his friends, and practically all his spare time over the past thirty years has been devoted to exploring and recording the history of Hibernian.
